• Fallin’ in Love Again

  The first time I met the Daddy-O was at a bar (it was a NICE bar so shut it) where he slipped in a puddle of beer and I caught him. For real. It was almost love at first sight, I puke you not. That was the first disaster that led to this love thang we’ve got going on, and it’s lasted for over 13 years. And let me tell you, 13 years is a loooooong fucking time. For every reason you can think of we’ve been hating each other, but mainly it’s because he’s a grumpy dick and I’m a frustrated bitch. Oh sweet puddle of booze, where are you? Our relationship could use a fermented spill like you right now.

  I never thought beer would bring me love and I for sure didn’t consider beans for a tired relationship remedy, but my life has been full of unusual surprises. I should really just chalk it up to normal that today I fell in love because of a bowl of old frijoles negro. You see, for the last week or so there’s been this funky smell coming from the fridge. It was so bad yesterday that I thought my kid shit his pants and he’s 21. I just couldn’t believe that odor was coming from the place we keep food. That we eat. With our mouths. And I was afraid, so very afraid. But the Daddy-O, that brave and shining man, is in the kitchen right this minute, with all the innards and outtards of our old Kenmore Coldspot (ironically a parting gift from the ex) spread all over the kitchen, his sleeves rolled up, his hands in a sink full of crisper drawers, while the kid is scrubbing a dried something that was stuck on the bottom shelf.

  I am absolutely swooning. This time I fell on the floor and he caught me.

  I’m in love again. I hope it lasts another 13 years, at least.
